We invite you on a journey through the breathtaking landmarks of Ural — the Usva River, the Usva Rock Pillars, and the mysterious Stone Town.
The name “Usva” possibly comes from the Komi-Permyak language meaning “water falling with noise”. Another version says the name comes from the Mansi language and translates to “narrow river”. Both descriptions reflect the river’s wild and dynamic character — it’s full of rapids and riffles and cuts right through the Ural Mountains.
The Usva Rock Pillars are one of the most iconic natural attractions in the Perm region. Located on the right bank of the Usva River, they form a massive limestone ridge stretching for several kilometers and reaching up to 120 meters in height.
The Usva Site or the Stone Town perched at 526 meters above sea level is one of the most fascinating places near Usva. There’s something mystical and unexplained about it — no wonder it’s called “Stone Town.” Huge stone blocks and narrow passages create the feeling of walking through the streets of an ancient city. You can wander here for hours. Like any real town, it even has its own landmarks.
The Great and Small Stone Turtles have become unofficial symbols of the Stone Town. But if you look closely, you might notice other stone “creatures” too. Some see a seal, others a stone idol, and someone might even spot the outline of lips on a wall. It all depends on your imagination!
Legends and ancient tales tied to the Stone Town and the lands of Usva will accompany you on the way. Giant boulders, narrow passages, and sheer cliffs will stay in your memory for a long time...
