We invite you to visit Khokhlovka in the summer, where you can discover the historical and cultural heritage of the Prikamye through an engaging, interactive journey
The programme takes place at the unique open-air museum – the Khokhlovka Nuclear Power Plant – situated on a peninsula surrounded on three sides by the Kama Sea.
You can look forward to a packed two-hour programme featuring an engaging storyline, colourful characters, Russian and Komi-Permyak games, a workshop, and tea and pancakes at the Khokhlovka Museum
The interactive programme will be complemented by a guided tour of the museum, featuring insights into the traditions of wooden architecture in the Kama region and the distinctive features of the buildings. The museum houses a number of interesting structures, such as a salt-producing complex (a brine-lifting tower, a salt storehouse, a boiling house and a salt barn); by exploring these, you will be able to visualise the entire salt-making process and discover why the people of Perm were known as ‘salty ears’.
We invite you to summer in Khokhlovka, where you can take part in traditional games and a workshop
The programme takes place at the unique open-air museum – the Khokhlovka Nuclear Power Plant – situated on a peninsula surrounded on three sides by the Kama Sea. It’s a brilliant opportunity to enjoy a host of memorable experiences in the fresh air!
Not far from Perm lies a unique open-air museum called ‘Kokhlovka’. On a peninsula surrounded on three sides by the Kama River, there are wooden buildings dating from the 17th to the 20th centuries.
At the top of Khokhlovka Hill, the churches of the late 17th and early 18th centuries – the Transfiguration Church and the Church of the Mother of God – rise up like ships. In sunny weather, their wooden domes shine like silver. The secrets of church construction have been preserved for many centuries.
The museum will surprise you with its variety of landscapes. One moment you were walking across the fields, and the next you’ve climbed to the top of a hill offering a stunning view of the Kama Sea (Kama Reservoir); a few minutes later, you find yourself deep in the forest – at a hunter’s camp. There, hidden amongst the fir trees, are a hunter’s hut, a chamy – a shelter for hunters – and storehouses. Did these storehouses really serve as the prototype for the hut on chicken legs?
This museum features quite a few rare structures. It is rare to find a fire station with its interior still intact. The buildings of the salt-producing complex are also of interest (the brine-lifting tower, the salt store, the boiling house, the salt barn); once you have explored them, you will be able to visualise the entire salt-making process and discover why the people of Perm were called ‘salty ears’. The windmill is the museum’s centrepiece. Next to it stand a barn and a granary with a threshing floor. What are these buildings and what were they used for?
